It is fascinating to watch boat builders using traditional skills which have been passed down over many generations. Until 1990 the population of Nungwi was still unfamiliar with tourism and was the last place on the Island to welcome tourists.
A one guided walk tour of Nungwi starts from the Zanzibar Hotel and includes a visit to a small, local aquarium which houses of turtles in lagoon which is tidal. The tour takes around 3-4 hours.
Swim with the turtles and learn about the centers programs to re-introduce green turtles back to the sea.
Visit the local dhow boat yard, fish market and learn how traditional houses are built from Limestone before stopping by the local school to meet the school children. Depending on the time visit.
